NEW DELHI: Prices of headphones, earbuds, and smartwatches being imported may go up by between Rs 100 for entry-level devices to over Rs 1,000 and more for Apple, Fitbit, Bose and other premium makers. The Budget has increased the customs duty to 20% as part of efforts to encourage local manufacturing.
Also, the Budget has done away with import duty on certain key components used in their manufacturing while stipulating a phase-wise duty structure in subsequent years to encourage development of a parts ecosystem within India. The FM said the changes to customs duty is encourage their local manufacturing.
