The demand for smartwatches has been growing steadily over the years. Apple with the Watch has been a dominant player in the market for the last couple of years. It comes as little surprise to see Apple Watch leading the market as two models are the best sellers in the world. According to IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo, the Apple Watch Series 7 is the bestselling smartwatch in the world. Launched in 2021, the Watch Series 7 is the flagship Apple Watch one can buy.
The second bestselling smartwatch, as per Jeronimo, is the Watch SE — the affordable smartwatch from Apple. The Watch SE is the toned-down version which Apple sells and misses out on certain features but still remains a very good smartwatch — and IDC numbers back that. The Apple Watch SE doesn’t have health features like ECG tracking or always-on display but that doesn’t seem to be a deterrent for buyers. Apple clearly has a firm grip on the smartwatch market as three of the top 5 selling smartwatches in the world come from Cupertino. The Watch Series 3 — launched in 2017 — is the fifth best selling smartwatch in the world. The Watch Series 3 is one of those ‘rare’ models that hasn’t been discontinued and is the cheapest Apple Watch you can buy.
Sandwiched between the three Apple Watch models are two smartwatches from Samsung. According to Jeronimo, the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic are the third and fourth best selling smartwatch models in the world.
With three watches in top 5, Apple leads the smartwatch market with about 51.2% share. Samsung is placed second with 18.9% followed by Garmin, which has 7.2% market share. Huawei came in fourth with 4.5% market share whereas Fitbit rounded up the top 5 with 3.6% market share.
